(RNN) - SEC Media Days is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get.
Moreover, it's tasty but not nutritious, produces a short rush followed by a crash and too much of it makes you sick.
This year's edition of college football's greatest media circus kicks off its three-day newsapalooza Tuesday in Hoover, AL. More than 1,000 media wonks will be crammed into a convention hotel attached to a shopping mall that's roughly the size of Vanderbilt's home stadium.
Here's a brief rundown of five top story lines:
Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel
Johnny Football will be there, and he could rival the Tim Tebow spectacle of a few years back. ?
The Heisman winner is a lot like Tebow, only not. He's fresh off a mysterious, early exit from the Manning Passing Camp in Thibodaux, LA, where he was late to meetings, missed a practice and said he was sick. Earlier this year, there were Instagrams of himself getting double kissed by a pair of spring-break bikini babes in Cabo, sitting courtside at an NBA game with a fashion model girlfriend and flashing cash fans in an Indian Casino.
Nick Saban
Alabama's head coach will show up with more security than President Barack Obama and will snarl at reporters who ask him whether the Tide can win its third straight national championship.
Coaching hot seats
There are no coaches feeling the heat yet this year because they all got fired last year. We will meet four new head coaches, who will be harshly judged by their performance much the way Joan Rivers rips on movie stars' clothing at the Oscars. For perspective, guys who wowed the crowd in years past include Dennis Franchione, Sylvester Croom and former turkey inseminator and Vanderbilt interim head coach Robbie Caldwell, all of whom are now pursuing other interests.
Vanderbilt's James Franklin
The head coach is facing his first full-blown crisis after dismissing four as-yet unnamed players for an alleged sex crime that looks like it could be hideous. ?
Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin
He got miffed last year when everybody lobbed passive-aggressive questions about whether Texas A&M really could hack it in the ever-so-awesome SEC. He shall, no doubt, retort.
There'll be all this and more. Check our coverage in the coming days. We will liveblog and chat with you.
