May 26 college track and field roundup: Faldemeyer wins NCAA regional title

Minisink Valley graduate Alec Faldermeyer won the men?s hammer throw in the NCAA Division I West Regional in Austin, Texas. The top-seeded Faldermeyer, a sophomore at UCLA, posted a throw of 219 feet, 11 inches. He advances to the NCAA finals at Drake University from June 7-9.

Aisling Cuffe, a freshman at Stanford, runs the women?s 5,000 meters Saturday.

Newburgh Free Academy grad Dotrine Jacobs placed 16th in the 400-meter hurdles in the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla. Jacobs, a sophomore at North Carolina A&T, was timed in 59.16 seconds. She also placed 33rd in the 100 hurdles preliminary in 13.65 seconds, not advancing to Saturday?s final round.

Army junior Nicholas Snoad placed 37th in the hammer at 183 feet, 8 inches.
Former MHAL champion Darnell Cummings of Millbrook, a sophomore at Connecticut, placed 42nd in the 200 meter prelims in 21.73 seconds.

New Paltz grad Natalie Busby, a senior at Syracuse, and Pine Bush grad Nicole Rozario, a senior at South Florida, competed in the women?s 3,000 steeplechase. Rozario placed 23rd in 10:22.23. Busby was 39th in 10:39.82.

Late Thursday night, Army freshman Lisa Junta and former MHAL champion Liz Marvin of Rhinebeck, a junior at Yale, competed in the women?s 10,000 run. Marvin placed 24th in 35:48.61. Junta placed 33rd in 36:50.56.

Washingtonville grad Martin Hehir, a Syracuse freshman, runs the 5,000 on Saturday.

Rondout Valley grad Jake Waruch, a junior at Connecticut, has already advanced to nationals in the pentathlon.

Tri-Valley graduate Ryan Loughney won his third consecutive NCAA Division II hammer title on Thursday night in Pueblo, Colo. Loughney, a senior at Ashland University, broke his own meet record with a throw of 232 feet, 1 inch. Loughney also won the 2011 and 2012 NCAA indoor title in the weight throw.

Loughney?s name was misidentified in Friday?s editions.
